Beauty vs. Pain

Author's Note: This was my finally piece and I did it on Text analysis. This is my last essay.

Beauty, is really important to everyone. It may hurt but people don’t care. The little girls grandma had foot binding, she was terrified of ribbons. The little girl was a ballerina and had a ribbon to wrap around her feet but when her grandma say she was in shock and stopped her. Beauty In china is different than what other people really think beauty is.

In china how they show beauty is called “foot binding”. Foot binding happens when you are a little girl. Just  like the grandma in story she would go through the same thing. “When a girl was about five, her mother would gradually bend her toes under the sole of her foot.”The grandma hated it she also had pain in her feet. But luckily they banded foot binding in 1912. China called this beauty, but therefore this type of beauty wasn’t the greatest feeling ever.

Since this kind of beauty would be painful the girl in this story was a little girl that had to go through the same pain she also was a ballerina. Which meant she needed help with tying the ribbon around her foot. As she was trying to tie them on her foot her grandma took the ribbon away from her. When she looked back at the satin ribbons, it was with a hate and disgust that I had never seen before.  “Give those to me.”  She held out her hand.” At this point her grandma was probably thinking about the pain in her feet and how much pain her daughter would be in.

What we can learn from this story  traditions is that people see beauty in all different ways. But in this story I learned that beauty can hurt just like in the story they talked about foot binding and how the grandma was just looking out for her granddaughter so she wouldn’t get hurt either.

Even though back then Chinas beauty was painful and different. Today in the world people also have different ways in their beauty styles. While people see beauty differently all they want to do is make themselves feel good about them.

Young and Old

Author's Note: I wrote my District essay on text analysis of "A clean, well lighted place."

When we get older like the man in “A  Clean, well lighted place” By Ernest Hemingway is a short story for how the older you get and the lonelier you get you want to stay at places longer since you have no one to talk to anymore. The old man in this story doesn't like his life and he tries to kill himself but his niece stopped him.

When the old man in the film sat in the dark area of the café it made the old man seem like he didn't want to talk to anyone or he was just depressed. Why I think this is because normally when people are happy they sit in the sun of were there’s light and when people are upset of depressed  and lonely like the old man in the story he decided to sit in the dark shaded area.

Therefore the old man wanted to stay longer at the café and didn't want to go because he was lonely. Meanwhile the young waiter wanted the old man to leave but the old waiter didn't mind the old man still at the café because he was lonely and didn't want to go home either. When the younger waiter made the old man leave the younger waiter sooner after that went home to his wife and the older waiter went to the bar.

Meanwhile if we were going to see the different point of view in the young waiter and the old waiter they are clearly different. For instinct the younger waiter was getting really mad that the old man was still at the café and it was almost closing time. Meanwhile when the young waiter is all upset the old waiter is actually liking the old man there for a longer time. Since the both waiters are different it makes the story seem more interesting.

This short story  “ A Clean, well lighted place” by Hemingway  lessons are learned. For example, that nobody is the same in their actions or the way they speak. The younger you are and the older you get you become interested in different things.

"After you, me Dear Alphonse"

Author's Note: In class we read the short story "After you, me Dear Alphonse." We had a homework asignment which was.

Home work:  Write an Analysis of how this story relates to the topic of naivete and reverse racism. How does it compare and contrast our society in Pewaukee areas of the country/world? What lesson do you think Shirley Jackson is trying to teach us?

Mrs. Wilson is naivete because she just assumed that Boyd is poor and has no clothes doesn't eat a lot has to work. When she is asking boy'd these questions her son is like no hes like us to in different words that his mother doesn't understand. It has differences here in Pewaukee because everyone treats people the same. But in out world there are the similarities to the story because people just assume a lot of things that are wrong. I think that the lesson that Shirley Jackson is that don't just assume someone is this or that because your not always going to be right.

Clean well lighted place - Hemingway part 2

In the film the music made the scene very depressing and scary like something was going to happened. Well after the music stopped playing the waiters looked very tired and bored. After the old man asked for another brandy music started playing again. It kind of mad the scene more depressing. I think that the music in the film made the whole film because the actors mad the scene look sad and boring but the music just made it more interesting to watch.

I think the setting of the scene was great because it was raining witch makes the day boring and the lighting in the building just mad it look like lonely and not a good day. I think that since the scene and the music just made the whole film more interesting it was great to watch the directors did a great job planning out the scenes and music and setting.

Heaven is for Real

Author’s Note: This is a retelling piece on the book Heaven is for Real.

Heaven is for Real is about a four year old boy named Colton who got to visit heaven. His family prayed for him to be alright while he was in the hospital because his appendix exploded. The amazing adventure he had when he visit heaven and how amazing he came back to life.

Dead or Alive

Author's Note: This piece is on cause and effect on the book Haven is for Real.

Sometimes when you think you have had a bad nightmare, it turns out that it is actually happening in real life. I’m four  years old and my family and I find out the hard way that my appendix exploded. It all started out with the stomach flu. The cause and effect in the book Haven is for Real is about an astounding story of how Colton visits heaven and comes back.

The cause in the book Heaven is for Real is that Colton and his family finds out unexpectedly that Colton’s appendix exploded. Before they had found this out Colton and his family were at the Crawl-A-See-Um and there was a tarantula that people could hold. Colton held it and after a little while he got sick and his family thought it was the stomach flu. They were wrong. It turned out that his appendix had exploded and that it had to be cleaned out right away.

The effect of the book is while Colton is getting his appendix cleaned out he goes to heaven he saw Jesus and his horse that no one could ride but Jesus. Also when he was in heaven he got to meet his great grandpa that his dad was really close too. After a while Colton figures out that he has another sister and when he later tells his parents they were shocked that he had met the girl since she died in his mom’s stomach. When he was up in heaven he was only there for three minutes but in heaven a day is like one thousand years.

If the event would of never happened Colton would have had to learn all the things he learned in heaven either at church or from his mom and dad. In the book it said that his parents weren’t going to tell Colton about them losing the baby till he got older. When he would of got older he probably would of found out all this stuff.

After a while Colton and his family have been thanking God and Jesus for being so lucky that Colton came back to life. Colton’s dad gets called into the hall when they were at the hospital and the nurse tells him that we were so lucky because they thought Colton died. This book  Heaven is for Real is a great story of how Colton’s family is very lucky.

A Clean, Well-lighted Place - Hemingway

Author's Note: My class had to read a short story called A Clean,Well-lighted Place By: Hemingway. After we were done reading the short story we had to answer one of the questions at the bottom of the page. This was my question.

How does Hemingway use light and dark as symbols? How do the shadows fit in?

I think that Hemingway use light and dark symbols because the old man at the bar was very lonely and  depressed and it says he lives with his niece and the old man tried to commit suicide but when Hemingway says he sits in the shadow in the cafe he probably is a very grumpy man. I think that Hemingway was trying to say that light symbols happy and dark symbols a sad.
