The poem Dreams by Langston Hughes has three different types of figurative language
are repetition, simile and metaphor. The poem is about how you should follow
your dream. Also if you don’t make your dream successful then how would your
life be without it. In the poem the author is trying to persuade the readers to
have courage in what they believe.
In this piece the author wants all the readers to know how
boring life would be if you didn’t follow your dream. As he compares life
to how boring it would be to “ life is a
barren filed frozen with snow.” This part means that your life would be
lethargic without your dream. Another part in this poem would be “Life is a
broken winged bird that cannot fly.” He is trying to say that life is fragile
and if you don’t take a changes you won’t succeed.
The author is making the reader feel that they have strength
and courage. As you read the poem the author made it so that there is a image
in their mind of how pointless their life would be without following your
dreams. The overall point the author is trying to convey is encouragement. The
reason why I think its encouragement because in the poem he is saying don’t
look down in his own words.
This poems figurative language was very affective to the
readers including me. I say this because when I get older I want to be a
professional volleyball player. In order to do so, I am going to try harder
each practice to be the best in the world some day.
