Author’s Note: Writing about “ The Moustache” made me realize how important family members are in life. When you read this essay I hope you feel the same thing.
The day we were suppose to go to visit grandma in the nursing home as a family. There were surprises and discipline that change the outcome of the day. We couldn’t let grandma down. “The Moustache” by Robert Cormier is a book about a child understanding how relatives and family members look the same.
Today Mike and his family is going to visit grandma in the nursing home. It was almost time to leave and Annie my little sister got the stomach flu and wasn’t able to go. Mike came down the stairs and his mom didn’t want him to go because of his moustache. I don’t even want to go Mike said. Well if you come you can drive his mom replied. It was smart of his mom to say you can drive just to get him to go. It is important to visit older family members because we will be old and lonely one day and you would want the company too.
When Mike and his family got to the nursing home they found their grandma on her bed looking out the window. Hello grandma. Hello Mike.I could see in grandmas eyes that she was excited to see me. The thing I didn’t realize is that she thought that i was grandpa. She talked about things that happened in the past then apologize for something she has done. Mike didn’t have the heart to tell her that he was not grandpa. I can see that miked loved his grandma and he didn’t want to disappoint her.
It would be hard for everyone to be in Mikes position. If my grandma didn’t know who I was I would not want to disappoint. In all families there are a lot of similarities in the way we look. Robert Cormier taught us all a lesson In the book “The Moustache” that we are all different but we may look like other family members.
